Gall Bladder Surgery > How are Gallstones diagnosed?

Ultrasound is the standard way of diagnosing gall stones. Ultrasound is a painless examination that allows the gallstones to be visualised within the gallbladder in the majority of cases. Occasionally more complicated tests are necessary such as CT or MRI scans though usually this is unnecessary.
