Hernia's > You know you have a Hernia. What happens next?

After your specialist or practitioner has confirmed the diagnosis and has recommended surgery, you have been given a referral to a specialist or are looking for more information and possibly want to choose a surgeon based on experience and specialisation in a technique to be carried out upon yourself. You have come to the right place. Dr Clement Tsang, specialises in all types of Hernia repairs and has over 14 year of experience as a surgeon specialising in Hernia repair surgery.

There are 2 primary hernia repair methods used:

The Open Hernia Repair Technique

Open Hernia repair is where a small cut is made directly over the hernia and the hernia is repaired under direct vision. A non - absorable Mesh is used which stays permanently in place.

Laparoscopic Hernia Repair Technique

Laparoscopic Hernia Repair Technique, which has developed over the last 10 years, is a laparoscopic or "keyhole" surgery technique where the operation is performed under general anaesthesia using small incisions and telescopes. This technique always requires the use of a patch or mesh to close the space where the Hernia has been removed or repaired.

Most hernia surgery is trouble free. Laparoscopic techniques may offer a quicker return to work and normal activities with decreased pain for some patients.
